Hamid E. Ali (PhD University of Texas at Austin) is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the American University in Cairo (AUC), one of the founders of the Public Policy Program and former Director of Master of Global Affairs at AUC. Prior to joining AUC, he taught at Southern Methodist University and Texas State University. In 2008, he was appointed as Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at AUC’s Department of Public Policy and Administration. In 2013, he was promoted to Associate Professor at AUC’s Department of Public Policy and Administration. The same year, he was also appointed as the Chair of the department.

Allison Hodgkins (PhD, 2010) is an Assistant Professor of International Security and Conflict Management at the American University of Cairo. She is also the director of the Master’s in Global Affairs; a program to prepare graduate students for leadership positions in the conduct of international affairs and public policy with a specific emphasis on students from Egypt and the MENA region. Her research interests focus on the relationship of power-asymmetry and insecurity in conflict management, especially with regards to ethnic conflict and conflict in the MENA region. Current projects include the negative impact of asymmetric security guarantees on the implementation of peace agreements. A graduate of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, she joined the academy after a decade long career in international education. She has lived in the Middle East for more than 13 years and is an expert on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Oslo process. She is a contributor to Political Violence @ a Glance.
